They have a very limited menu during most days. It consists of Hot Wings, Fries, Onion Rings, Fried Okra, Fried Pickles, Turkey Burger, Gumbo, BBQ Shrimp, Po’ Boy’s, and Jambalaya. Sunday is Soul Food Sunday where they add Fried Chicken, Ox tails, Turkey Wings, Turkey Chops, and Turkey Necks to the menu. The Greens, Mac and Cheese, Yams, and Red beans and rice are only served on Wednesday and Sunday.
My brother and I ordered the Gumbo, Jambalaya, Fried Chicken, Fried Pickles, Mac and Cheese, and Red Beans and Rice to share. The first thing we tried was the Gumbo. It comes with rice, turkey, shrimp, and crab legs. I was expecting more flavor in the sauce, so we were a little disappointed with it. That’s not saying the Gumbo wasn’t good, it was tasty and I wouldn’t hesitate to eat it again, it just wasn’t as flavorful as I was expecting. My brother got a piece of turkey with a huge chunk of gristle still attached which turned him off a bit as well. The fried chicken was very flavorful, moist, and fried perfectly. The fried pickles were plentiful and flavored very nicely. Dipping them in their ranch dressing made for a great little treat. The mac and cheese and red beans and rice were also very good. The true winner on this trip was the Jambalaya. It was packed with flavor and I couldn’t stop eating it. I would go back to Sal’s just to get another order of Jambalaya.
This place is small, but there is plenty of room to sit and wait for your order to finish cooking. We were getting our food to go and were able to sit and one of the tables while we waited. We didn’t have any trouble finding a place to park nearby. We were greeted by C.C. when we entered. She was extremely friendly and welcoming. She took our order quickly and suggested some of their deserts. We didn’t take her up on the offer, but the deserts did sound delicious. They are open from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm Monday – Saturday and 12:00 pm – 7 am on Sunday.
